Birds, Bling, and Bread...

Making Days Count 24

It started out as another grey day, but soon I noticed a few sweet birds coming around the feeders.

I think this could be a female Ruby-crowned Kinglet, as there is no red patch visible, although it may be just hidden. The one on the top-right is the Golden-crowned Kinglet, yellow stripe visible today.

Sorry I didn't have my camera on a tripod for this little video through the window.

I decided to go outside and crouch down beside the birdbath and fortunately the Towsend's Warbler didn't seem to notice me at all. She was up, down, and all around!

After taking photos of the birds, it was time to go for a walk, check the mail, and see just which shades of grey were down by Harzel's path.

Bread was baking so that when I got home a lovely aroma greeted me, and a warm slice of it with butter and marmalade was just the ticket to revive me :)

  1. With plenty to see it almost doesn't matter that it was a grey day.
You sure are seeing lots of lovely looking birds.
A cup of tea with warm bread, butter and marmalade is the perfect tea-time treat! Flighty xx

  2. Lovely set of shots of the Townsend's Warbler. You can almost see through its wing in the centre photo.

From previous shots I had assumed Harzel was in a hedge but now I can see he has plenty of space.

It got as high as 10C here today and Bobby actually laid out on the lawn for an hour. I don't think it will stay that way much longer though.

  3. Hi Flighty ~ It is all in the eye of the beholder, isn't it? I just have to radiate from within and wait for the sun to join in! Yes, I'm pleased with the number of birds I'm recognizing now. It's also interesting to know that many of them seem to have similar looking 'cousins' over there. I agree and the bread is very tasty when it's fresh.

Hi John ~ Thanks ~ I think that's the first real shot of wings that I have taken and I was pleased with it. I thought the same about it being nearly see through.

When seeing Harzel standing on his lonesome, it does show he has lots of room to spread his tendrils!

Nice that you had some decent weather and I'm sure Bobby enjoyed relaxing on the lawn...our temps are hovering around 5-8C, which is OK, but the skies are remaining grey.

  4. PS After looking at the centre photo on the female Townsend's Warbler collage, I realized that part of the wing had been cut off by the border...I have removed the border and made the photo slightly larger.
