What caught my eye today?

I arrived home late tonight, so the photos are presented in quick fashion!

Before I headed south this morning, I noticed some activity in the garden. A couple of Varied Thrush and a Northern Flicker were busy in the grass.

Following are a  few pics from the park which I visited between my appointment and meeting up with my youngest son for dinner.

This totem pole which you can read about here was topped by a real bald eagle today, and I tried to take some photos to merge into a panorama. I returned home late so had to plop three photos on top of each other manually to give some idea. Sorry for the poor quality!

A few peacocks were eying me up for handouts.

A black squirrel grabbed a peanut and up the tree it went.

Meanwhile some crows were diving for them as well...this one gave up and went back to picking up sticks.

A busy day, including a lot of driving, so that's it for today.

BTW we had frost last night!!!

  3. That flicker is very pretty with those stripey wings. And I love your tall shot of the totem pole and its live topper! Brilliant blues on that peacock closeup, too.

  4. Thanks Hilary ~ I seem to have encountered many and varied birds lately. The peacock was quite friendly. Quite the unobstructed view for the Bald Eagle way up there on the top of the totem pole!

Hi Mo ~ It certainly is a tall totem pole, and the first time I've ever seen an eagle on it!

Hi Nikki ~ I get a kick out of the way the Northern Flicker pecks at the lawn with such determination. They do have pretty plumage. Agree about the blue of the peacock ~ vivid indeed.

  6. I'd like a totem pole in my garden! Peacocks really are the most beautiful of birds. Their blue feathering is stunning. That's an amazing shot of the crow Glo. x

  7. Thanks Flighty ~ glad you enjoyed my photos :)

Hi Louise ~ There are many totem poles around here, but I can't say I've seen too many in gardens ;) They're interesting, especially if you get the story that unfolds in each carving. Thanks for your kind comments re photos. :)
