Swallowtail and Sunset

For a day or two I have spotted this lovely butterfly fluttering by, and finally was able to get a photo of it. I’m wondering if it’s a Western Tiger Swallowtail, as per this site: Western Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly

Tonight, I went down to the beach at sunset. There’s definitely a holiday atmosphere now. I saw a couple of kayakers, and then noticed ‘something’ swimming in the water.

How lovely! It was a family of five. A dad and his two sons were snorkeling, while the mum and daughter were kayaking. They were having a great time…and then the dad said to the mum, “Come and let me kiss you with my salty moustache,” and she ran away threatening him with the kayak paddle…haha.

Now just so you don’t think everything is butterflies and beaches around here, there seems to have been a nibbler last night. I noticed a few leaves nibbled off the bottom of the cherry tree, and a nibble all along a low hanging grape vine which is very close to the gate to the rose garden. But...HA HA... my gate kept it out and there was no disturbance in the rose garden. :)

  1. Hi Glo. What a beautiful butterfly, not many been seen yet this year in my garden, another day of torrential rain by the looks. The tale of hubby trying to give his missus a little kiss made me smile. I am not sure if I would have been too keen on a salty moustache though, not used to facial hair, or tasting too much neat salt! I am glad whatever has been nibbling has kept out of your rose garden, and as for seeing something in the sea, I was anticipating you saying you saw a shark! x

  4. Nice photos. Are you a snorkeler too Glo? The first (and only) time I went snorkeling in Hawaii it was a bit scary but after I got the hang of breathing with my face in the water I found it very fun. I would like to go again someday if I ever get back there. The next trip will probably be the Grand Canyon. No snorkeling there.

  5. I've seen a few butterflies on the plot but none have settled long enough to take a photo!
I wonder what your phantom nibbler is?
I agree with Diva as it's been a thoroughly miserably wet day here today! xx

  6. Oh, Glo. I'm so impressed with your butterfly photo (though that sunset is just stunning). I tried to take a photo of a swallowtail on my hike, but came away with blurry shots of nothing (he was waaay too fast for me).

  7. Hi Louise :) I'm sorry to hear you're having heavy rain, while we are basking away in sunshine ~ for now anyway. I hope it clears up soon for you. Yes, it was a cute scene with the family on the beach; nice to see them all together enjoying themselves, especially when their sons and daughter looked to be teenagers. I don't think there's much chance of seeing sharks around here...more like seals, porpoises, and whales!

Divastar ~ I'm glad you enjoyed my post and that it brightened your rainy day. Sending you sunshine....:)

Liv ~ Hi! Yes, it was funny. Before he said that, his wife said that it was easier to get into the kayak than out of it, so luckily for her she had made her escape before he thought about a salty kiss!

Hi Roomie ~ No, can't say I've ever snorkeled, although Hawaii is the place I thought of it too. There are many snorkelers, scuba divers, and surfers around here, but I prefer to walk on the beach and watch them :) A trip to the Grand Canyon would be terrific. I've never been, but have seen many shows and photos. LOL..no snorkeling there is right...;)

Hi Flighty ~ The butterfly really seemed to like that particular flower so I was fortunate to be able to get a few photos. I have been keeping my eye on it as it sails around each night. My camera is never far away! Indications are that my nibbler is a (shhhhh...in case Daffy hears...d e e r) Sorry to hear you are having rainy weather. Tell it to stop! ;)

Nikki ~ Thanks so much for your kind comments on my butterfly and sunset photos:) Usually the butterfly is flitting around everywhere, so perhaps it was posing for me...which I really appreciated :)
