Duck hunting

Well, that was a short hiatus! I went for a walk after supper hunting for ducks and ducklings. The ‘trail to town’ is the opposite way than the walk to see Harzel and the beach.

It’s a bit like walking in the countryside as there are a few small farms with sheep, Shetland ponies, and llamas with ponds and a waterway on each side of the trail.

I was serenaded once again by much bird song, with a particular robin singing its little heart out on top of a Harzel Willow type tree.

Unfortunately, there were no ducks to be seen. However, on the way back I saw a dog in a basket...

and two llamas. They looked at me and then struck the same pose. Very obliging, and kind of funny!

When I was nearly home, I spotted a covey of quail and I crossed the street so as not to interrupt them. However, a car drove by and they all flippity fluttered up onto the fence.

  1. Llamas always look so haughty, though their manners aren't so lordly.
Quail look so funny to me. That feather on top reminds me of the time the kiss curl was fashionable.

  2. I love Llamas - so full of character! A fascinating walk. My walks with Elsie just provide us with cows, horses and sheep - but I still can't grumble can I?

  3. When you said you'd pop back in if there was anything interesting to post, I had a feeling you'd be back soon -- you are always coming across interesting things! I like the laid back look of those llamas. Lovely shot of the quails with the pretty pink blooms in the background.

  4. As John says llamas sure do have a haughty look!
Lots of good, and interesting, photos as always to enjoy over a cup of tea! Flighty xx

  5. Hi John ~ yes, llamas do have that look about them. I nearly wanted to laugh at their posing, but decided to just smile instead. The fence that was separating us wasn't that sturdy looking! I remember the kiss curl in front of each ear :)

Hi Denise ~ We have llamas and alpacas around the area, so they are fascinating to watch indeed. Your walks with Elsie sound lovely :)

Thanks Nikki ~ There were a couple of other llamas in the field as well but they were off doing other things...not posing like these two. It was handy that the quail hopped into a colourful background :)

Hi Flighty ~ Thanks, glad to accompany you with your cup of tea. Pass the biscuits, please :)

  6. That must be the shortest blogging break in history Glo :) I do understand though that it was probably just a brief appearance.

I enjoyed seeing your lovely Spring flowers on Monday's post and of course the White-crowned Sparrow, a delightful little bird.

This post was enjoyable and varied too. The 'dog in the basket' made me smile as did the Llama encounter and it was nice to see the Quail too.

Have an enjoyable break Glo. I really don't know how you managed to post every day, I find just keeping up with commenting severely restricts my own postings!

  7. Thanks so much for you thoughtful comments ShySongbird. I am smack dab in the middle of organzing and resorting around here...things that have accrued over time. I need the time I usually spend on the computer to do other things right now. We are still enjoying a slow Spring...although sunny at times, the temperatures remain coolish. I'll be back every so often :)

  9. Would Spud the dog sit so elegantly in a basket on a bike; I think not.

  10. Thanks Juliet ~ Glad you enjoyed the photos.

Hi UHDD ~ LOL ~ No can't quite see Spud sitting still in there for one minute! Actually, she let it out for a run at he end of the trail, expecting it to follow her bike on the way back, but no, it got distracted by another dog. So she had to dismount and go back to pick the pooch up. She wasn't pleased! ;)
