Bad to Verse -

It’s not that I’ve been idle, not a chance,
although retirement’s hardly song and dance!
Each time I start a project, things get worse,
so time to try and put it all to verse…

I took a desk apart to use the drawers
inside a cupboard opened by two doors.
Because the width was such a perfect fit,
I only had to fiddle just a bit,
or so I thought, but soon I grabbed my drill,
the jigsaw and some screws. I worked until
it came together. Now it’s done at last!
I spent two days on something I thought fast.
To tidy all the mess will take a while.
A stack of bits and bobs has formed a pile,
which waits for me tomorrow to diminish.
I read two novels through from start to finish
in two days straight – because the weather’s bleak -
Not good for taking photographs all week.
On Sunday for a teeny little minute,
the sun appeared and I sat out, and in it!
Some barking basking creatures joined right in;
their pleasure resonating – what a din!

I’ve fooled around with brushes – Photoshop –
and now that I’ve begun it’s hard to stop.

As you can see, the days have simply fled,
and now it's goodnight time from sleepyhead. - Whoops!

  1. Oh my word! Such a busy time.
Glad you managed to do some rhyme.
Hope you get to move the bits and bobs.
Keep your chin up! Don't want sobs.
Two novels you say! Well my oh my.
Where they good? Did they make you cry?
I'm reading the Elephant Keeper, by Christopher Nickleson.
Hard going but keeping on as I know it's going to be fun!
Well my dear it's time for me to go.
I'm in a panic as I know it's going to snow.
I hope your weather improves for you soon.
We might have to escape it in a balloon!

    xx

  2. What a lovely post with a great title!
Hello I was beginning to wonder if you'd hibernated or gone on holiday!
You have been busy and I like the photos, especially the last one with the bouncing moon.
I've been reading 3/4 books a week for the past two months but now really want to get plotting again.
    Roll on spring! Flighty xx
    Love Daffy's comment!

  3. Playing with photoshop is fun, isn't it? :)

Btw, how did you do the automatic picture (I meant the 2nd last pic)?

  4. Ah, I figured you weren't just napping your days away -- those are projects that tend to expand, especially when one is in retirement!

  5. Oh thank you Daffy for the sweetest poem!
I'm sorting through the bits and bobs at home.
Amazing what I've kept in drawers and bins,
as well as boxes, plastic bags and tins!
I'm shredding papers, turfing what I can.
It's not much fun ~ I need a travel plan!
As far as reading books, I forge along
    as if I'm in a rampant read-a-thon!
I think procrastination plays a part,
for when I'm reading, projects cannot start!
Your novel sounds unique ~ I've looked online ~
No elephants were characters in mine!
Oh gosh, more snow is coming? What a pain!
I better not complain about our rain!
At least my weather helps to get things done.
I'd be outside if there was warmth and sun!

  6. Hi Flighty ~ I thought I'd better come out of hiding before somebody thought I was lost! A holiday sounds very appealing about now! I'm using the time to get some projects done so that when spring comes, I can get outside feeling like I've accomplished something. Who knew moons could bounce? ;) I'm sure you're itching to get out onto the plot. Perhaps it won't be too long. Yes Daffy's poem was fun!

  7. Hi Selby ~ Yes, it's fun to play in Photoshop. Even though I can use it a bit, it has possibilities that I've only slightly touched on!

For the seascape photo, I uploaded some brushes, and used each one on a new layer. I then used the animation option to edit them in Image Ready. I hope that makes some sort of sense!

  8. Hi Nikki ~ I just think it's such an opportunity to get some projects out of the way while the weather encourages inside jobs! Even though it's not much fun, I'm sure I'll be happy when they're out of the way ... if they ever are! When I was working, the house looked the same when I came home...now, because I am in the process of sorting, I can make a heck of a mess in the process! Oh well ... get on with it, I say!
