On Saturday I walked along the "Trail to Town" where I had seen the ducklings last year. Well, there was nothing that I could see in the water along the edge of the trail. No ducks, no frogs, no dragonflies, no nothing! I did see a llama sitting among the buttercups, however:
On my way back, I happened to see something swimming in a pond in the distance, in a farm field.
... and that was it for ducks.
On Sunday, I had a quick walk around the garden before heading out on my pursuit! I was joined by a robin:
My son joined me as he was off today so we packed a picnic and off we went. Our first stop was an estuary not far from here.
We walked along a narrow path:
and came across a pool of water! Yay, I thought, now for some ducks.
Nothing visible ~ no ducks, etc.
We carried on and came to a viewpoint from which we could see:
a veritable graveyard for tree stumps, or prehistoric creatures:
The ducks were probably petrified to come anywhere near here!
Although we didn't see any wildlife to speak of, the sweet fragrance of wild roses (new header) was heavenly!
We continued on towards the river, and lo and behold, a couple of ducks!
...with no ducklings.
All of a sudden, a pounding of feet, and
What fun!
We decided to go to another estuary, which was mostly a mud flat today. We found a bench and had our picnic.

All in all, it was a lovely relaxing weekend, topped off by a couple of steaks on the BBQ ~
I must show my OH your steaks. He is a carnivore, just like some of those dinosaurs! Four ducks flew over our place yesterday evening, making quite a quacket! x

It's good to know that the weather was brilliant, and there was lots of good scenery even if there wasn't much wildlife!

What a great combo post of images and footage to let us join you. In one of the slide shows, did I see some pinkish honey suckle? Love that stuff! And with all that hunting and rooting about, I was ready for a hearty lunch... and there it was! Juicy looking steaks.
ReplyDeleteHandsome Robin, so different to the UK one. Loved the video of the geese(?). One adult seemed to have a wooden leg but it was getting about all right.

A picnic AND a BBQ yesterday was just the thing ~ especially the aroma as the steaks sizzled.
Hi Nikki ~ Yes, I have two honeysuckle bushes ~ one way at the back under in the nuthatch nest area, and one at the side of the house. The fragrance is wonderful, isn't it, and coupled with the scent of the wild rose ~ hmmmmm....much like the fragrance of a hedgerow! By the sounds of things, a couple of more steaks on the BBQ is in order ;)
Hi Midmarsh John ~ Our robins says, "Thanks, for the kind words", and struts off feeling quite special :) Yes, they were Canada Geese and their goslings, the geese that have become so much of a nuisance to many! However, how can anyone be upset with them when seen with their little families on parade! I did notice that one lame goose, and I wondered what its story was...but as you say, it seemed to be managing OK.
A llama??!! What a surprise. Great photos. Love seeing the ducks in the river too. In fact just seeing the river is nice! I can tell I am ready for vacation out of the city:) Nice post Glo.
