I was so excited!

Yesterday, a flickering motion in the front window box caught my attention. The cutest little bird with a red crest was flitting amongst the Heuchera leaves near the window. I picked up my camera and cautiously approached. It was difficult to get some decent shots from the inside since it was bright outside, making a glare on the window, but I did manage a few! This is a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, with other links here and here

Once when I was out for a walk, I saw numerous of these little Kinglets on the path before me, darting about like tiny gold-green imps with a mission. I wasn`t aware they had red crests that become visible when excited.  Click for a larger image.

  1. Hi Glo, I have Heucheras and would be delighted if they attracted a beautiful little bird like that but somehow I don't think so :) What a pretty little creature it is!

The video of the Bald Eagle on the previous post was wonderful too, you really do live in an amazing place :)

  2. Hi ShySongbird ~ I was wondering, perhaps, if it saw its reflection in the window and was reacting to that. It is very cute, isn't it!

I'm glad you liked the bald eagle video ~ I'm sorry I haven't got a telescopic lens to get closer shots, however it gives some idea of their flight patterns. Yes, I do indeed live in a lovely area, thanks, and appreciate those who visit to check out my photos :)

  6. Hi Flighty ~ Yes, I was also pleased that I was able to get a picture or two with his red crown because the camera kept focusing on everything else but the bird! I enjoyed learning more about the kinglets and now I'm watching for them each day.

  9. Hi John ~ Thanks :) It was a wonderful surprise to see the little fellow and its red crest and I was happy that some of the photos were not too bad. I saw him again yesterday with his little red crest, but he was too quick for a photo. I was just happy he was still around.

Hi Nikki ~ Yes, it's he cute? I was thrilled to see it peaking in the front window ~ red crest and all!
