Twilight time (edited to add poem)

**I've edited this post to include a poem I wrote for fun about Flighty's washing bowl pond, tadpoles, a fox and a robin. Click on for larger version.

The evenings have been lovely, tempting me to go for a sunset walk to the beach. Accompanied by the fragrance of honeysuckle and roses wafting on the breeze as I listened to the twilight song of birds, I thoroughly enjoyed the last rays of the day. I decided to stop at the top of the trail rather than descend to the shore. I stood there for a long time breathing deeply as the sun slowly sank from sight.
Because of the strong breeze, the waves were rolling and I could hear them crash on the shore. I took a few photos along the horizon and later stitched them together to form a couple of panoramic views, one of which I have used in my header.

On my walk home, I saw the silhouette of a bird which appeared to be on a feeding mission.

Yesterday my brother and his partner came for dinner. We barbecued chicken and skewered vegetables (no photos!), but I did manage to take a photo of desert. It was a light cake (1 cup egg whites), resembling an angel food cake, with a touch of cinnamon and streaks of chocolate throughout. I served this with strawberries, blueberries and vanilla ice cream. It was very pleasant to sit out on the deck relaxing with company and enjoying dinner together.

Today, a dragonfly was visiting the rose garden and fortunately, she landed on a rock! I know it was a 'she' because of the delving I had to do to find out! What we have here is a Female Common Whitetail Dragonfly.

Here's a wiki link and another link.

She then flew off the rock and landed in the cedar shavings to offer a profile view.

I am really appreciating my time at home, especially since it is always such a busy time as the school year draws to a close.

  2. Love the sunset panorama. Well done.

As I was scrolling through I spotted the cake and then thought, how clever an iced dragonfly, before I realised it was the real thing ;) A great shot of the dragon on the rock.

  3. Hi Nikki ~ Thanks ~ yes, very pleasant indeed! It's nice to have the freedom to enjoy it even more!

Hi John ~ Glad you liked the panorama. I used a tree at each side for position, and it seemed to work well. That would be clever to ice a dragonfly ~ much easier to take a photo! Thanks for your kind words re photos :)

  7. Thanks Flighty for your comment and for including the link in your post. I learned a fair bit about tadpoles as I researched for the poem! My dragonfly photo did turn out quite well I thought as it contrasted with the rock.

Hi UHDD ~ I am indeed enjoying the freedom to do as I wish around the garden and elsewhere :) Thanks for coming by and hope you are enjoying your weekend.

How nice of you to come back to read the poem, Nikki :) Glad you liked it.
