Bright and 'Cherry'

After replacing my recharged camera batteries, my photos seemed to have disappeared before I downloaded them. However, I took out the memory card and put it back in again, and my photos re-appeared. Phew!

It was a bright and clear Canada Day, and red and white seemed to be the order of the day ~ with a bit of blue splashed in!

My eyes were drawn skyward when I heard the unmistakable roar of a Martin Mars Bomber.

Another sight that caught my attention:

The weather has been so glorious, that haymaking has been bales of fun! Well, I can say that because I haven't been working outside in the heat ~

I noticed that someone in the neighbourhood looked like they had grown a crop of Canadian flags, as they were poking up all over their front lawn. I meant to go back and take a photo, but forgot! So imagine that, if you will :)

Meanwhile, back in the garden, it's cherry picking time. The birds have known this for a long time and have had their fair share. This young robin seems to be trying to figure out how to get the one dangling below:

There are still cherries left to eat! ~ and let me tell you, they are succulency personified!

I have recently shown a photo of a pear, and now for the apples:

They're coming along very well!

John of Midmarsh Jottings admired my header (Thanks!) which is a photo of one of my Folklore rose blooms. Here are some other photos taken today:

Two new rose bushes ~ Fragrant Cloud (divine fragrance!)

Big Purple (also very fragrant)

I accomplished a lot today at work, which helped me to see that this paper work will eventually be done! One more week to go before I'm foot loose and fancy free! I hope to get to the beach sometime this weekend if the weather stays warm and perhaps it will help cool poor frazzled Flighty!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Lucky you seeing a Mars flying! That could only be bettered by seeing one take-off or land on water, or doing this

I get the impression that the cherries were good!
    Goodness me what lovely roses!
Just reading this, with the mention of the beach has cheered me up.
It's been cooler here today so I've been pleasantly pottering as you'll see in tomorrow's post.
    Enjoy the weekend! xx

  2. Oh those cherries look fantastic, Glo! I have just finished pitting some for a fruit salad later today. One for the salad, one for me :-) Glad the birds are willing to share some with you. Your image of hay bales is very similar to the scenes I saw driving home.

  3. I thought you put the plane up for Flighty!

I suddenly want cherries very much, and now all I can think about is eating some.
I heard it was cherry season right now, anyway.
J says in late August we may be going to the cherry capital of the world (Michigan).

  6. Hi Flighty ~ I thought you might like to see that shot of the Mars. I have actually been on one (on the ground!) and will try to remember to look back for some photos. I have also seen one dump water at an airshow, and have seen one land and fill up. Nice picture on your link! Yes, the roses are lovely. Glad to hear that it is cooler and that you are back to pottering. Looking forward to the post...

Hi Nikki ~ Thanks! The cherries are tasty juicy morsels ~ pitting can be rather messy, can't it! LOL at the one for the salad and one for me! Sounds like you had a great trip!

Hi Liv ~ I thought Flighty would like the plane ~ luckily it was still in view by the time I grabbed my camera! So I've got you salivating for cherries, eh? Do cherries ripen in Michigan in August?? Glad to hear you are both settling in and getting cosy!

Hi Selby ~ Glad you like the photos of the cherries ~ they are just perfect for eating right now! Yum!

  7. The Folklore bloom is beautiful to be sure. I wonder, is it also fragrant? Nice series of photos Glo. The cherries look so good. I am amazed the birds left any for you but then they do consider you a friend :) You mentioned your photos ion the camera disappearing and then reappearing. Someone described the same problem to me recently but she did not try inserting the memory card again. I wonder if that would have worked for her also. Good to remember for next time. Glad to know your Canada Day was such a beautiful one.

  8. The colour on this post whacks you right between the eyes! It's a lovely morning wakeup to be splashed at by so much vibrant colour and the lovliest images!
I love cherries, I get lazy though and usually swallow the stone, my mum used to tell me i'd grow cherry trees in tummy. (Now onder I'm not loosing weight! I must have a forest in there!

  9. Hi Roomie ~ Yes, Folklore is fragrant, but now that I have Fragrant Cloud, everything pales in comparison! I is such a huge cherry tree that the birds are welcome to all the cherries at the top, but they did manage it eat a lot more than that! One year we had buckets full, but this year, not so many! I think Raccoons got in the tree as well because there were some broken branches on the ground. That's nature! With regards to my camera and no photos,I don't know why I decided to remove the memory card and re-insert it...the idea must have been tucked away in my brain memory card;)

Hi Daffy ~ Glad you enjoyed the colourful splash! As for swallowing cherry stones ~ isn't one stone equal to 14 lbs! No wonder you're not losing weight is right! LOL
