Where the River Meets the Sea

If you read between the lines, you can see that the weather was not very promising today. Nevertheless, I decided to get out for some fresh (and moist) air. I packed up my camera and drove out to “where the river meets the sea.” I was met by a slight fish pongy smell and the cries of many birds and a snort or two! Perfect :)

  1. It been even less promising here today being cold, wet and windy!
Lots of terrific images, and those eagles look magnificent.
The only animal missing is a bear or two!
I do like that header photo. xx

  2. Flighty ~ Glad you liked the images and the header! I love going to this particular place, and I was the only human there! I got a kick out of the seals popping up and looking at me ~ I was trying to get a movie which include their snorty-breathing, and also the sound of the Trumpeter Swans. I'll see if I can upload a video later. You bet I kept my eye open for bears, but although I've seen their footprints I've never actually seen one there. I had a can of air freshener in my pocket in case I needed to spray something at one ;) I have no idea if that would have been any use, but it was the only thing I could find in my car! At least it would have concealed the smell of porridge that I had for breakfast. LOL

  3. Glo, I love how your words make me look at the greyness and see what you see and feel a little of what you feel.

  5. Well, Selba, you've come to the right place if you love birds! :)

Thanks Nikki ~ I wrote a sonnet, and then spread it out throughout the photos. It's amazing to see life cycles 'in operation' ~ the crustaceans, fish, seals, birds etc. and then seeing the decaying fish dropped near the trees which in turn benefit from the nutrients. DNA of salmon has been found in the needles from the top of conifers! Fascinating stuff!

Liv ~ It does look cold, and it was quite breezy and damp, but not really cold. I don't even think I had my jacket done up!Invigorating though :)

  6. Glo, I live where the river meets the sea so I felt very much at home watching all these lovely images and great poem. Last weekend I saw 2 black swans.

  8. Even a gray day is entertaining with that lovely poetry of yours Glo. It punctuates the meaning in the images. Especially fun to see the seals.

  10. Roomie ~ A lovely comment, thank you :) There were some super photos in the local newspaper of the seal lions devouring salmon whole! There was also a photo of the photographers ~ and the cameras and lenses used were impressive! It would be wonderful to get closer shots.

Olivia ~ Grey skies seem to be the norm recently ~ hard to tell the difference between the sea and sky! A silvery steely composition! Southern Calif is a different ballgame altogether ;)
