The sun was shining...

...so I was out, heading for Swan country ;)

Today the tide was out farther than the last time I visited. Huge patches of seaweed and other natural debris along the edges were attracting Trumpeter Swans and others.

Here are two female Goldeneye and a male Bufflehead with female companions.

Trumpeter Swans soaking up a natural spa treatment ~

Adding to the available nutrients, numerous dead salmon ~

One Bald Eagle posted for easy viewing ~

Off it flies ~

Meanwhile, the swans feed on the swirling mass of vegetation ~

Above, a Bald Eagle circles ~

This was an interesting interlude ~ four swans converged with straight upright necks, and then began a discussion with a lot of head bobbing and chattering.

Two more Bald Eagles overhead ~

I stood as far back as I could to capture three stills and stitched them for this panoramic view of about 20 of the 30 or more Trumpeter Swans.

I arrived home to find SuperSquirrel(TM) up and about in the oak tree where the Pileated Woodpecker was yesterday.  Do you see the hummingbird by the feeder?

I am happy to be out in the sunshine while it lasts.  The temperature was 11C today, so that was good for the middle of November.

  1. It is good to see the results of your wanderings.
Your swans look like the Whooper Swans we get but with blacker beaks.

    1. Thanks Adrian ~ it is interesting to read about the distinguishing features of the various types of swans ~ at one time a swan was a swan to me!

  3. Lovely post I can never get over the fact that you have humming birds there.
Lucky you with the weather it's been dull and wet here today, and looks set to be cold, just above freezing, for at least the next week or so. Flighty xx

    1. We have two species of hummingbirds on Vancouver Island ~ it is always good to see them flitting around, and I often hear, and just about feel their buzzing wings when they're close by.

  4. Lots of beauties here. I saw the hummingbird right away and then read what your temperatures are. I'm amazed. Our hummers are long gone and I believe it was still warmer than that when they left.

    1. Thanks Hilary ~ Vancouver Island is home to two species of Hummingbird, the Rufous and Anna’s Hummingbird. I don't know which one is in the photo, but I know Anna hummingbirds winter here.

  5. Wow, what a shot with the SuperSquirrel(TM) and the hummingbird! Those Buffleheads look a bit like synchronized swimmers so uniform in their positions. Having the sun makes such a difference to photos, doesn't it? Beautiful blue skies, too.

    1. Thanks Nikki ~ SS(TM) is not too timid, either and just goes about its business ~ of course, the hummingbird doesn't look like much of a threat, anyway! Sunny blue skies, wildlife and ocean work well together :)
