Oh deer!

  1. What a lovely encounter even if it did looks as though you were going to be appleless as well as cherryless.

  2. I'd love to see a deer like that but be annoyed at it taking fruit from the trees! Flighty xx

  3. Hi John ~ yes, it was good to see the younger one as well as Dora. If the wildlife keep coming, the whole back garden orchard endeavour may be entirely "fruitless" ;) There was a black bear spotted on the beach, so they're out looking for sustenance before hibernating.

Hi Flighty ~ In a way I was glad the deeer were able to get some of the fruit as it has been such a dry summer and the grass is so dry...and they don't climb trees like those bandit raccoons, so there's still plenty for us. I will have to get busy canning some pears in grape juice, and making apple pies and applesauce!

  4. It's lovely to have all of this wildlife in your garden, but have you any plants left! They are dears though! x

  5. When we lived in Scotland we used to get deer visiting the garden. I soon went from ahhhhh, cute! to GEROFFF my plants!
We never got as far as fruit, they used to eat the bark off the trees. :(

  6. Well, they certainly aren't camera shy! And I see you've named them? So they're YOUR deer now, right? Love the music you chose ;-)

  7. Hi Louise ~ The deer are well known around this area for strolling through the gardens nibbling as they go ~ gardeners fence things off (like vegetable gardens and roses, etc.) otherwise they're easy pickings. The deer start with tulips in the spring...but there are some vegetation that they don't eat, like daffodils. Most of my back garden is grass and fruit trees, with my little rose garden protected by a fenced area.

Hi UHDD ~ Yes, I can understand how the cuteness can wear off...especially if they eat the bark off the trees! These are black-tailed deer, or mule deer, and they seem to be happy with nibbling as they wander around. They didn't seem to concerned when I went outside to take photos, just ambled off as if they hadn't a care in the world ;)

Hi Nikki ~ Deer Dora seemed like a good name, and then the little one came along, so not sure what its name is ;) The biggest surprise I had one year was looking out the front room window at a deer who was looking in! I don't know who got the bigger shock...it had antlers, which was quite a sight. Glad you liked the music :)
