Making tracks!

Yesterday I was making tracks, and today keeping track ~ one more day off! But I wasn't the only one making tracks ~ my son noticed an interesting set of tracks when he looked out of the upstairs window. There were recognizable tracks, such as those left by a neighbourhood cat; there was a line left from melting snow that had dripped off the washing line, and then there were the other tracks! The imprints are quite far apart and the only thing we can think of is that they were made by one leaping deer ~ What else could they be ~ any thoughts??

After yesterday's busy work day, I did not do much of anything today, although for some reason I fancied a plum pudding! It still looks like Christmas, so why not? Before long the kitchen counters were filled with various fruits and nuts, the food processor and mixer were busy, and after a few hours of steaming, the smell of spices filled the air! Yum.

The sun did come out yesterday, but because I was indoors (working ~ have I mentioned that before!!!) I didn't reap the benefits of a lovely outdoor day. No more snow fell today, but the temperature hovered around the freezing mark, so nothing melted either! The snow is now ice crispy, and if you kick it (to get a clump out of the way when you are parked at the workplace) it hurts your toe!! Ouch!

Tomorrow I will try to investigate more thoroughly the mysterious tracks ~ which reminds me ~ I wrote a poem about following tracks in the snow once, wondering if the trail would grow cold.... ;)

  1. I've no idea about the tracks but have you had a closer look or tried following them!
That pudding sure looks and sounds rather tasty!
No snow here yet but it's been just as cold, and looks set to stay that way next week.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend! xx

  2. Now I have an image of you with a deer-stalker hat on! I was thinking of Sherlock Holmes but Deer...Stalker... Deer tracks...get it?? ;o) I'm such a hoot somedays! I'm just preparing for my first day back at work tomorrow. *deep breaths!*
    The pudding looks lovely.
Oooooh I wonder if it was a giraffe? That would explain the distance between the prints...

  3. Hi Flighty ~ I haven't been out in the back at all since the snow started! It looks like it was heading for the fenced off 'rose garden' area, although there are a few little plants around the edge ~ I'll see if I can check it out today, but it's so windy, I might get blown into the neighbour's property! The pudding was yummy and there's more for today :)

Daffy ~ Yes, the deer-stalker hat and a looking glass, and me tiptoeing through the crunchy snow... and I must remember to look up to check on any high tree branches to see if there are any noticeable giraffe nibbles ;) You are a hoot, indeed!

Yes, work tomorrow for both of us ~ holidays are much nicer, aren't they?

  4. Oof, that's funny about the ice crispy snow. I remember kicking it a bit when we had some here last month. It's all gone now, and none coming for the foreseeable future. All sun and coldness.

  5. Hi Liv ~ Crazy weather around here, now we have another layer of white fluffy stuff which makes the ice blocks look innocent! The weather is supposed to 'warm up' somewhat this next week ~ believe it when I see it. Nice that your snow is gone :)

Back to the deer-stalking ~ although I did not go outside to check the tracks, I looked through my binoculars and saw that the tracks came from the side of the house, jumped across the lawn and leaped over the back fence ~ perhaps an antelope ~ ?? or a giant rabbit ?? the Sasquatch...

  6. I think a deer - their tracks are elongated, no?

Plus I can see a deer leaping more lightly than an antelope.

  7. Yes, Liv, I'm sure it was a deer ~ I was just being goofy about the antelope! I wish I could have seen it leaping ~ but then I might have started looking for a 'partridge in a pear tree' ;)

  8. The little birdie is sweet, and the photo of the tracks a nice slice of life in snow country. You must be right about the deer tracks. I hope you get another sunny day so you can get out and enjoy it—though you'll be bundled up I am sure.

  9. Oh my goodness. I never saw the bit where you mentioned the giant rabbit or the sasquatch! I was so congested earlier this week, that visiting blogs again today I realize I only saw things in parts!

  10. Hi Roomie ~ I'm back to work and at a new job, so my blog time has been limited! I'm glad to say that the snow is finally melting, but it has a long way to go. Now we have rain, but no one is complaining! Temps are around 6 to 9 C. I think the sun is expected on Tuesday :) I liked the way the little bird on my photo looked all fluffy to keep warm.

Liv ~ Sorry to hear you were congested ~ hope you are feeling better. The tracks have disappeared now with the melting snow. It was tough for the deers during the heavy snow, so hopeful my leaping one found some sustenance! I'll be blogging sometime on the weekend when I hopefully have some time!

  11. Today here it has been very cold again, although a very beautiful blue sky, with everything in sight frozen solid. A very heavy frost, but no snow. A lovely plum pudding to warm you up, did you have custard or cream? Happy New Year Glo. x

  12. Hello Louise ~ Good to see you :) I'm glad to hear you have some blue sky, even though it is frosty cold! I actually had vanilla icecream on my warm plum pudding! It was so good. I don't think I'm going to wait until next Christmas to make another one!

  14. I love all those tracks you find in the snow. It's like a little visiting card left behind by an unknown visitor. Over here we do not have snow very often so when we do, we thoroughly enjoy it, tracks and all.
