Life is a bird full of cherries!

What a perfect day for gardening ... but how can anyone garden with so many distractions? The weather remains 'tropical', and the cherries, although not yet ripe, must have tasted quite succulent to the robins in particular. There was much carrying-on in the tree ~ but hold on to your gardener's hat, ~ first, a few photos of white flowering plants for Flighty, with a little bit of pink ~

Over the back fence, a mock orange tree...

Over the side fence, neighbour's white hydrangea

On my deck, hanging basket ~

Now, back to the robins ~ caught in a quiet moment ~

But look what else was going on!! I was so excited to finally capture this on video and still photo ~

Meanwhile, in the Grapricot tree (The grape vine intermingled with the apricot tree brances)...there were the cutest little fledging chickadees.

Here's one snuggled in a perfect cradle ~

Every so often, I'd get back to gardening and when I looked up ~

and over in the conifers ~

I spotted a hummingbird at a red rose, and then at the honeysuckle ~ of course it moved so fast, that by the time I was ready with the camera, it had buzzed off! I did manage to get some strange shots of one, though ~

Sitting on a branch in the Grapricot tree (about a third of the size of the chickadee)

Through a space between the fence ~

and checking out some geranium petals on a tree ~ (how did they get there?)

As the day wore on, and I was having a break on the deck, I noticed that some birds were fluffed out at the bottom of the garden ~ the hottest driest spot ~ robins and a young flicker I think ~

It was a glorious day and I felt so grateful that I was able to share and enjoy the back garden with these lovely birds ~ and, of course, I did stop to smell the roses! My new header is 'Folklore' and the fragrance is divine!

  1. A perfect day for lawn lounging I'd say!
That spendid rose has my nose twitching! Thanks for remembering my love of white flowers, the hydrangea and iceberg rose have me sighing.
Lucky you seeing, and photographing, all those wonderful birds, especially the hummingbird.
    Have a good week! xx

  2. A fantastic series of shots, Glo! I love all that sweet whiteness you've got -- esp that pretty fuschia. Every time I see them, I want to try growing them again!

And those bird shots are phenomenal! It's terrific that you have "front row seats" for all these little bird activities.

  3. Hi Flighty ~ It was a great day for gardening, bird watching, and lounging ~ all balanced out to make a lovely time. Glad you liked the photos of the white flowers ~ the hydrangea is amazing ~ just covered! The iceberg is coming along ~ a bit spindly, but quite a few blooms. I'm surprised any of the roses survived such a heavy snowy winter, especially since they were just planted last year. I had a great time watching the birds and taking photos!

Just two more weeks of school, and the children are off for the summer. I will work a little longer to finish up and get things in readiness for the fall....and then "I'm outta there!"

Hi Nikki ~ Thanks for your lovely comment ~ that fuschia is so delicately pink ~ very ballerina-like. Too hot in California for them? The cherry tree is right beside the deck, so with all the activity going on in the branches, bits and pits are coming down... I think a hard hat rather than a sun hat might be appropriate head-wear! I hope they leave some cherries until they ripen so we can have some too. I don't remember all the activity at this time of the year ~ but I think it must be because of the heat wave, and no rain. (Although it's coming, I hear!)

  4. Glo, you have captured some great images here. I love how the robin is feeding 'one for you, two for me'! I love white flowers, they look magical in the evening light. x

  6. Oh my goodness! I LOVE the pics of your birdie visitors. Especially the closeups with their fluffy breasts and beady little eyes, I nearly kissed the chickadee on the screen.

I haven't seen any here, though we got loads in TX always travelling in a group with the Tufted Titmouse.

What we have here are Robins in abundance, even more numerous than sparrows, in my neighborhood. Never seen so many in my life! They are amusing to watch on my walk to the metro with their jaunty attitudes, and wonderful to hear singing joyfully.

    xx

  7. Thanks Louise for your lovely comment. The robins continue to enjoy the cherries, and lately the midnight marauders (raccoons) have taken over! I wonder if there'll be any left by the time they are ripe! Yes the white and pastel flowers are magical looking, aren't they?

Hi Nic ~ thanks for coming by and glad to know you enjoyed my photos.

Liv ~ hi there, and glad you enjoyed my posting. I laughed thinking of you kissing the chickadee on your screen! They are very cute. Yes, I've noticed an abundance of robins as well, but mine seem to be too busy stuffing their faces to be able to sing sweetly!
