Frozen Still

I have just replied to the comments on my previous post, thank you :)  We are still experiencing the Arctic Front (Arctic Back and Sides, also ;))  The wind chill took us down to -16C which is more like the northern climes than here.  However, since I am retired, the problems with travelling to and from work, plus dealing with related issues involving students, parents etc. are alleviated.  Also last year I bought new winter boots and a new heavy duty snow shovel, which weren't needed then, but have been well used recently.  The following photos were taken from the front room window, the kitchen window and through the deck doors.  Warmer temps (+8C and rain) are forecast for the weekend. Here's a poem I wrote to sum it up.

  1. Nice wintry post with a warm ending!
It's very cold here but thankfully no snow, although there's been plenty in the north.
    Stay warm! Flighty xx

  2. Ugh. That sounds positively frigid! I just finished D. Koontz's book Icebound about people stuck in the arctic where any exposure to the snow and wind can be deadly.

Love your poem, Glo. Hope the front (and its back and sides) will march on through and not linger too long!

  3. Hi Flighty ~ the rain is falling washing away the snow, and it's above 0 now. Perhaps that was winter, and now it's on to spring ;) or perhaps not. This weather gets me in a baking mood, so today it's gingerbread! You stay warm, too!

Hi Nikki- It was freezing cold! I lived up north in the Peace Country for a few years and I know what 55 below feels like so this is nothing in comparison - I can't imagine what it would be like to be 'Icebound'.
Glad you enjoyed the poem...it has warmed up and is raining now which is more like a West Coast winter! The snow was pretty, though. Wonder if we'll have a white Christmas!

  4. Great poem and lovely snow scenes. You have had more snow than here, as yet, and my wind chill has only reached -5 so far. It would appear that the snowy weather could be with us for at least a week. The UK's earliest heavy snowfall for 17 years though not too bad locally.

  5. -18... I have never been under -6 good luck! Is so good to know you don't really have to suffer it.
    Beautiful poem! and photos!

  6. Thanks John. It sounds like its pretty chilly there, too, although the rain has washed most of the snow away here. It still hovers around the 0 C mark during the night though. Early snowfalls all around then! Glad you're not experiencing too much of it....yet ;)

fer ~ thanks for you kind message. Yes, we were surprised to see the cold snap so early. Last year we had no snow to speak of! Glad you liked the photos and poem.
