Mid May

Nothing too exciting going on around here so let's start this off with a taste of lemon cheesecake tarts :)  Last Friday, I went to the school I worked at for 11 years. I didn't go empty handed. I made and baked the pastry, then added a cream cheese filling, topped with a tangy lemon sauce. Since the recipe had called for 2 egg yolks, I decided to whip up the whites into meringue. They tasted light and delicious, even if I do say so myself, and I was welcomed back at anytime. ;)

Because it was Friday and it was a sunny day, some of the staff from that school and the staff from the school I retired from in December, met for a gathering at a local golf course. We sat on the deck munching on appetizers and enjoyed the view.

On Sunday, it was Mothers Day, and my sons, girlfriends, other mothers and grandparents met at a restaurant which was located at a midway meeting point on the island. There were 10 of us, and it was very enjoyable sitting out on yet another deck. We noticed a blue heron standing near a houseboat. At first it seem statue like, however once it moved its head, we knew it was just waiting patiently to see if supper was going to swim by.

Other than that, I have been working in the garden, cutting lawns, visiting plant nurseries, reading, sitting on the deck, walking, and generally just enjoying this lovely spring weather.

  1. Looks like retirement is agreeing with you Glo. Lovely views. Looks very serene there. I am waiting for our Spring temperatures to get back to normal as they have been around 6C below average for a while now.

  2. I bet those cakes were delicious, so it's little wonder that you're invited back anytime!
Lucky you with the weather as apart from being dry here it's been cold and windy, with frost a couple of nights.
Wonderful heron pictures, did it catch it's supper?
It's good to read that you're enjoying yourself! Flighty xx

  3. Yum! The tarts looked and sounded lovely, you realise you will have to take them, or something similar, every time you go now :)

Loved the photos and the Heron too but had to look twice as at first I thought it was tethered!!

  5. Hi John ~ Yes, retirement is great :) In fact, so great it appears as if I retired from blogging as well! Serenity seems to describe much of life around here. Our May weather was rainy, cool and not the usual around here. Everything is green and lush (and wet). Hopefully the weather will improve soon!

Hi Flighty ~ Yummy, indeed! Well, the weather changed and it has been very wet and chilly. No the heron didn't catch any supper at that spot, so he moved on. Perhaps he just wanted to be part of a photo session ;)

Hi ShySongbird ~ Yes, the tarts were tangy and tasty :) I can see what you mean about the heron looking like it was tethered ~ that electrical cord gives the impression of a rope!

Hey Daffy ~ Good to see you! I haven't been blogging lately, however I will attempt to get back on track. Thanks for dropping in!
