October Photo Scavenger Hunt

Thank you for your responses to my previous post.  I appreciate all comments :)

October has been quite wonderful weather wise, with a mixture of sunny days and expected wind and showers.  It is interesting to go through my month's photos to remind myself of some of the places I've been and sights I've seen.  On with October's photos:

1.  Question
Apparently there are 130 Visitor Centres throughout BC to answer any questions, ...identified by their distinctive, blue-and-yellow logo, these Visitor Centres provide a wide range of visitor services, including professional visitor counselling, helpful travel information and literature, and accommodation reservations. Visitor Centres specialize in community information and provincial itinerary planning and their service is friendly and personalized.
 2.  Cream
Not ice cream, but a cream coloured mix of seaweed where a creamy Sandpiper is camouflaged in the mass.

3.  Number
A chalk artist decorated the beachfront walk with a colourful display of rainbows, and a Halloween Hopscotch ~

4. Lattice

Here is an October rose supported by lattice work on either side of this bright welcoming door.

 5. Familiar
A familiar October sight ~ trees displaying leaves in their autumnal splendour.

 6.  Ring

I discovered that guests have been coming to a certain resort in October for many years.  They have become like family, and one of the ways they celebrate this occasion is to ...what else, but decorate their own noodles with rings of pool noodles and go for a chilly swim.  The lady who told me this was one of the crew, but at 91 years of age, said she was no longer a 'beach babe'.

...so did anyone actually swim in the salt water?

7.  Today

Well, the 'today' I took this photo, I was at the Tibetan Happy Festival at a Buddhist Temple and grounds ~ so a very peaceful way to spend an afternoon ~

8.  Down
I caught a glimpse of dark feathers and shadow against the rocky shore as I looked down from the beachfront sidewalk.

9.  Writing
At the Tibetan Happy Festival, a selection of beautiful Native American Spirit Flutes were on display, and the writing on the posters introduced Terry Mack, who played one of the flutes, adding to the harmony and ambiance of the afternoon.

10.  Many

Of course, during October most of the autumn leaves fall and are swept into gatherings!

11.  Broken

I spotted a few juvenile Bald Eagles at the estuary, some finding broken posts as vantage points.

12. Whatever

Here's a fine chap at the beach,

however discovering he was chosen for 'Whatever' rather than being Number 1, he looked a bit down in the mouth and maybe even broken-hearted...enough to cause a double take...wait for it...

To finish off...I noticed a few young crows and their mother at the beach.  When I downloaded the photos, there appeared to be a log monster behind one of the young ones...so...

    1. Thank you Linda P ~ likewise, I enjoyed your collection. November has started off blustery and wet, but hope there will be enough calmer days to get out there with my camera! November will no doubt whip by in a flash!

  4. The last monster sets a Halloween mood! I just love that door with the lattice and rose, and all the gorgeous pictures of autumn leaves and beach scenery. I'd love to have a Happy Temple nearby!

    1. Thank you Val S ~ I didn't even see that monster behind the crow until I downloaded the photo, so I was a bit spooked by it! I'm glad you enjoyed my photos. The Buddhist Temple is a beauty.

  5. I loved all your interpretations for the word prompts. Loved the dog on the beach, what a handsome fellow and the end collage wa fabulous. The autumn colours of the leaves on the ground and on the tree are gorgeous. I hope you have a lovely month ahead.

    1. Thanks Margaret. I am so pleased you enjoyed my photos ~ fortunately there were quite a few blue sky days that invited me outside. The Saint Bernard looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but the beach...

  6. Lovely selection of photos this month Glo - especially the St. Bernard and the crows. I love how you interpret the given words - every Scavenger Hunter sees the words differently which makes it all the more interesting.

    1. Thank you Elaine. So true that we all interpret the prompts differently, and that is indeed what makes it even more interesting to see all the other posts. What an expression on that St. Bernard, eh? I wonder what it was really thinking.

  7. Wonderful! Hope that crow as finally cawmforted by his mom. I'm always impressed with your bird photos as I've seen first-hand how challenging they can be!

And a happy birthday to you, Glo! I hope you will have a terrific year with plenty of beauty and joy to fill your days.

  8. A lovely, and interesting, selection of pictures. My favourite is that wonderful looking dog with a somewhat perplexed expression.
    Happy birthday! Flighty xx

    1. Thanks Flighty! Yes, perplexed is the perfect word to describe the expression on the St. Bernard's face. He doesn't want to be there, does he? He doesn't even want to lie down and get sand in his fur, and has no inclination at all to get in the water....so he waits...until it's time to go home. That's what I think anyway.

Many thanks for the birthday wishes, and for the card you sent in the mail :) Much appreciated.

    1. Thanks JoAnn ~ I am glad to know you enjoyed my photos. When I first started doing these Scavenger Hunts, I set up the template for the 12 categories, and then realized I could just change the background, words, and replace the photos. I still use the same template...It helps when I'm uploading each photo to remember the order! Pleased you like the collages. Happy November!

  11. Another great collection of photos! I especially liked cream and today.

Regarding the tree number, I see them so often I don't really give them any thought! The one in my photo won't be part of the woodland survey as that one wasn't in a woodland. You see number tags on trees on streets, in parks... I think local councils must keep some sort of tree record perhaps for older trees (never seen numbers on small trees) or ones that are important in some way or need to be identified or monitored or something.

Interesting about the tree labeling and thanks for sharing more info about it. 7776 is a lot of trees that someone has been keeping track of!! ;)

It's such fun seeing everyone's interpretations of the prompts - thank you for coming by and visiting me yesterday :)

    1. Thanks Fil ~ Great to see you joining in the hunt. Glad you enjoyed my photos. It was an usual sight to find swimmers in October ~ although it was sunny....it was October!! They seemed to be enjoying themselves, and it seemed like a perfect photo op. Yes, it is fun seeing the variety of choices and how people respond to the prompts. I enjoyed visiting your sight and seeing your photos, so you are most welcome :)

  13. Another marvelous, creative responses! I really had to search for that sandpiper, how well it blends in!
Brrrr....what brave souls going swimming....with....NOODLES on the noodles! Love that!
Lucky you getting to visit the Buddhist Temple and enjoying the spirit flute, how beautiful they look.
Ooooh.....can't get enough of your bald eagles....as for Whatever...FAB!
I'm smiling away at the log monster. Brilliant, as always.xxx

    2. Thanks Snowbird ~ I always enjoy your enthusiastic comments :) Pleased to know you enjoyed my photos ~ you wouldn't find me in the water in October ... my noodle says no thanks! The Buddhist Temple is quite something, and as I said, the area has a most peaceful feeling about it, even when there were others milling about ....maybe milling isn't the correct word to go with the Temple ~ meandering about sounds better ;) Glad you liked the log monster...

  15. You always come up with a great collection, Glo! Like you I enjoy going through my month's photos and enjoying the memories. It's like having a visual diary. The visitor centers in British Columbia were very helpful when my husband and I were there. We saw a number of talented chalk artists while we were in Victoria. Your touches of humor with the crows and the moving dog were fun! Have a great November!
