September Photo Scavenger Hunt

Good bye Summer; Hello Fall
If it wasn't for the photo hunt
I wouldn't blog at all...

At least that's the way it seems!

1.  S is for Special Snuggles and Swampy Sunbather

I've previously mentioned these two special pals that live in a nearby field.  They spend much time together, and recently I was fortunate enough to see them both snuggling together then having a little chat ~ just like friendly next door neigh-baa's do ;)

and here's Swampy Sunbather ~

basking in a delightful pond, edged with bulrushes swarming with swift-darting dragonflies.

2. is 2 p.m.

"Does this ring a bell?" she chimed in.

3.  Car park

Here's an old caboose car parked in a shed at the McLean Mill (steam sawmill).

 4.  Hat
Introducing the Juan and only wiry Senor Siesta sporting a Sombrero ~

An artist, wearing a sunhat, surrounded by driftwood.  Wondering if she had brought her painting equipment with her via that little boat, I inquired.  "Oh no," says she, "I live in that cabin behind me."  Sweet!

and Hear Ye! Hear Ye!  The Town Crier in his Tricorn hat.  But what is he Hear Ye-ing about?
Perhaps he's learning the words and actions to:  My hat, it has three corners ...

5.  In the mirror

Reflecting on this choice, during a recent trip to Victoria, I took a photo from a rooftop restaurant of this mirrored building.

6.  Garden

Across the road from the neigh-baa's is this colourful dahlia garden.

7.  Lock

A locked gate covers the doors to this campground convenience store, (a little incongruent with the word convenience).

8.  Nails

In a previous photo scavenger hunt, I posted a photo of a trestle, and on that trip I remembered seeing some large railroad stakes pounded into some fallen tree trunks.  Today, I returned to the location and nailed them down ~  Why are they there?  Don't know...I'm stumped ;)

9.  Lame lamp ~ I say this because this is a photo of one of the solar lamps on my sun deck.  It's not even lit!  Perhaps I'll be back later to update when it goes on :)

Update:  not perfectly lined up, but you get the idea

10.  Street sign

This cautionary sign was in a car park near a popular hiking area ~

If it isn't warnings about bears, it's warnings about cougars ~ People walking little dogs are especially cautioned when there are cougar sightings.

11.  Game

I returned to a location where I took a photo or a saltwater swimming pool in a previous photo hunt.  This time I am focussing on the large chess board ~

12.  Outside your window

Today while I was waiting for the 2 o'clock photo ~ I took a photo out of the car window ~ autumn splendour!

Once again, thanks to Greenthumb for hosting these monthly photo scavenger hunts!  Also many thanks to those who leave comments on my blog ~ even when I'm AWOL.

  1. A good look at September. If you have Photoshop there is an Auto-align tool somewhere.
I love the sheep and pony.

    1. Thanks Adrian ~ I'll check for that auto-align feature to use another time :) The sheep and horse are great together ~ I could have just cropped their front parts in hindsight ;)

  2. An enjoyable, and interesting, selection as always. I especially like numbers 3 and 4 this month. Flighty xx

  3. Another great batch Glo.
Are the double strikes of the Westminster Chime real or echos I wonder.
Maybe the iron plates are fish plates - used to join lengths of railway line together - just a thought.
Wish we had such deep Autumn colours.

    1. Thanks John. The clock has carillon bells and during the Christmas season chimes out Christmas carols periodically. I think you're right about the fish plates..because they are right next to the track. I'm not sure why they are nailed into the tree stumps, though. Their are a few species of trees that are just brilliant during this autumn season. Also the Virginia creeper is turning a red now...must get a photo.

  4. Awwww, how sweet the horse and sheep are, that has made my day! I love swampy and am now contemplating making a wiry senor siesta sporting a sombrero....
What fun the three corned hat song is....I actually tried to imagine singing it while omitting words!
COUGARS???? REALLY???? STRUTH.... I would love to see one!!!xxx

    1. Hi Snowbird ~ Yes great pals, those two. The sheep was wending its way through the horse's front legs. Swampy was very still, while other amphibians were splooshing and splashing. Yes, Senor Siesta would look great in your garden. Funny about you and the three cornered hat song ;) I'm happy to be cautioned about cougars and bears, but do not actuallyn want see them up close and personal :) My brother spotted a cougar on a recent bike ride, just seeing its hind end and tail heading into the bush. Too close for me!

  5. Nice to see you re-surface now and again, Glo. And with a lovely collection of your unique interpretations of the prompts. Love your visual sleights of hand ;-) I must say (and perhaps it's a sign of my own prejudice), but when I saw that sign on #10, I saw a cat and not a warning about cougars!

    1. Hi Nikki ~ Thanks for your comment and glad you liked my photos. The cougar is just a big cat afterall, so makes sense that you'd make the connection to your precious felines. No warning needed for them though....they're cuddly!

  6. Love the photos of the sheep and the horse - lovely to see that they are friends and keep each other company. Loving that dahlia garden too if only I had the space to devote to one plant in all its glory.

    1. Thanks Elaine ~ each time I drive by the field where the horse and sheep live, I look to see where they are...invariably close to each other. If it's hot, they are in the shade in a little shed type area...they also eat together, and seem to be great companions. The dahlia garden is next door to a market garden, so lots to see in a small area.

  12. Great photos - I love the cougar sign! I don't have anything exciting like that where I live. Just lots of deer crossing signs.

    1. Thanks Katie ~ Perhaps the cougar sign is a warning to the deer around here as well, especially the little fawn. Hope they take note ;)
