OK ~ Here it is, the end of April! I had some thinking to do on this one, and I hereby present April's selections!
1. Upside Down
An unfortunate crab takes this spot ~
2. Clouds
Clouds of cherry blossoms on my tree, with a puffy white cloud background.
Such beautiful blossoms while the lasted ~ my favorite view from my dining room. See what happened a few days ago during a blustery day ~
3. Chair
Visiting, reclining, studying??
4. Something sweet
No, I did not order this decadent dessert...but my friend did...
5. Growth
So much new growth during this delightful Spring... one of the first rose buds!
6. Glass
This is a glass heart hanging in my parlour window.
7. Bedroom
At the bottom of the garden, on top of the tall clothes line pole, there sits a bird
I was all excited... and then I saw a red breasted nuthatch take interest... I could hear tap-tap-tap as the floor was being inspected and excavated (I guess).
I wondered if either one would take up residence. I decided to call the inhabitant a 'chickanut', so that either one would be included.
Guess who stayed?
8. Rain
Oh, yes, we had rain...torrential downpours. But not often! Typical April weather. Taken from the front step ~
Closer look ~
9. Egg ...hmmm
10. Fresh
How could this moustached crow with a fresh load of material miss my notice?
As a matter of interest, when a person walking a dog strolled by, the crow put its bundle down on the curb and nonchalantly walked away, (in fact I think I could hear him whistling in an offhand manner). When the walkers were gone, he picked up his bundle and trudged on, but not before...
11. Feet
...he used his feet to hold the bundle down and scrape through it with his beak.
12. Whatever I want
During a drive beside the beach, I could see a pair of eagles circling and chasing each other while letting out loud cries. I quickly parked, grabbed my camera and took photos of them ...at first I thought it might be a mating ritual, but there seemed to be some sort of altercation going on.
I wasn't able to get both Bald eagles in one shot, but here is one circling and calling out....
and here is the other when it finally landed in a tree, with its head twisted around, keeping watch on the eagle still flying overhead.
And that... was April!
Thanks once again to greenthumb for sponsoring these monthly Photo hunts, and thanks to my readers, and especially those who leave comments...because I love reading what you have to say!!
Love this collection. The nuthatch and crow with a "stash" are my favourites I think.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gillian ~ I am interested to see if the nuthatch 'hatches' a family ~ the little ones would be sweet to see. I loved the crow with his 'stash', too!
DeleteI've enjoyed your interpretation of the challenge and especially found the bird ones interesting. Loved the amusing little verses.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda :) I love making little verses for the birds and putting stories together ;)
DeleteI love how you've infused each photo with your wit and humor, Glo. The video of cherry blossoms floating by was very refreshing. And the silly things you catch the birds doing are terrific. Doesn't it make you wonder what goes through their tiny little brains?
ReplyDeleteThanks Nikki ~ always happy to bring a smile. I love seeing the cherry tree blossom each year, and always feel a little sad when I see the petals fly away ~ As for the garden birds, they are such a great pleasure to watch, and I do enjoy embellishing their world with my imagination ;)
DeleteAnother great selection Glo. It has been 'snowing' petals here as well. Hope the chickanut raises a family for you to watch.
ReplyDeleteThanks John ~ The blowing petals really are beautiful and snowing is a perfect description. I sure hope the chicknut family produces ~ the birds are small anyway, so babies would be fun to see.
DeleteYou're welcome! A wonderful selection of pictures, and I like the video.
ReplyDeleteI especially like the two of the crow, which I find such fascinating birds. Flighty xx
Glad you enjoyed the photos Flighty. I watched the crow for quite some time, and it really was so interesting to try and figure out what it was up to. Much more fun than people watching ;) Pleased to know you enjoyed the video as well.
DeleteWow wonderful shots especially the birds. Are you in Canada? That was where I was fortunate enough to see Bald Eagle and Piliated Woodpeckers when visiting a friend in BC. Amaznig experience!
ReplyDeleteThanks shazza ~ Yes, I live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Nice to know you have visited our province :)
DeleteWhat a MARVELOUS post!!! So full of treats, where to start??? Well, I just loved the cherry blossom video and really enjoyed the nuthatch poem, here's to the pitter patter of tiny feet! What a lovely bird! I was laughing at the crazy woodpecker poem.....lovely....and wow, WHAT an ending!!! Bald eagles......sighs....xxx
ReplyDeleteGlad to know you enjoyed the bird photos, Snowbird. I seem to like taking photos of them :) I am hoping that their is a nuthatch family - there is still activity around there, but goodness knows what stage of nesting is taking place! Hope you enjoyed your Lakes holiday.
DeleteLove your glass heart and all the bird photos. The rain shots were perfect too. x
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie ~ glad to know you enjoyed my photos :)
DeleteWhat fun, Glo! I enjoyed your photos, commentary, and rhyme thoroughly. Some humor too ~ with the man napping under the newspaper! I can't recall ever seeing a photo of a woman like that! The crow photos were fascinating, and its story was interesting. I think crows are an intelligent bird species. And the closeup of the rain is striking! happy hunting this month, Glo!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Fundy Blue ~ the birds around here do seem to be humorous, or maybe it's just my imaginative perspective ;) Yes, the crow's behaviour was so interesting to watch. I'm already May hunting :)
DeleteBrilliant. I loved this Glo. The beautiful video of the blossom - inspired. The funny commentary re the crow nonchalantly dropping his sticks and walking away whistling had me in stitches. And the poem about your new resident in the bird house - wonderful. Your posts are always very creative - and I think you have excelled yourself this time. p.s. we have rain today but April was definitely a dry month this year which is most unusual for the UK.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Elaine :) So glad you enjoyed the post of photos and other efforts. Spring is such a gorgeous time of year, that I can't help but feel happy with all the wonderful new plant growth, bird antics, etc.
DeleteHi Glo
ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't seen all your photos as my computer isn't loading well. The bird snaps are fab though, that eagle in flight is stunning.
Hi Fiona ~ I have updated this post with smaller photos so that it doesn't take so long to load. Sorry about that! Glad you enjoyed the photos that loaded, especially the eagles :)
