June Scavenger Photos

...and there goes June!

Here is my selection of photos for the June Scavenger Hunt that I have linked up to Kathy's site, Postcards from the P.P. where you can see links to other participants' photos. :)

Local signage:

An elephant statue that I came upon by chance:

My original wheel trim choice was this one I spotted on a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air:

Photobucket

...but when I drove to the recycle depot and saw this array of awry contraptions, this photo wheeled to the forefront (the hazard warning seems to have come too late!)

Photobucket

On one of my walks, I noticed this architectural detail filling a triangular area under a roof overhang on a home:

Photobucket

Rounds and blocks of Parmigiano cheese at a local market:

Just after sunset, heading into night, from my sundeck:

There were so many choices for tree branches, but a corvid insisted on this particular one:

Photobucket

Cutlery in a tree? Yes, someone made me a wind chime from silver cutlery, and I hung it in the cherry tree. As an aside, some cherries are usually ripe and ready to pick on July 1...this year they are hard green marbles, so possibly the cutlery will be put to the test! ;)

Photobucket

I racked my brain for a childhood memory photo, until I remembered the Blackpool Rock I bought on a visit to the UK. I also remember Edinburgh Rock as a child.

Photobucket

The farm animal I chose, was none other than Billy Goat Gruff ~ on his bridge...

Photobucket

The first choice for the "Z" photo was this pattern found on a painted zebra:

Photobucket

...but on a recent walk, I saw this fence shaped like Z's zig-zagging along the trail.

Photobucket

and finally the view from my front door to the right ~ a colourful splash of flowering plants.

Photobucket

I do enjoy these photo scavenger hunts as I observe my surroundings with more focus and end up noticing sights I wouldn't normally see.

How about joining in for the July hunt? You might be pleasantly surprised by what you find.

On to July's Scavenger Hunt:

red, white and blue
flip flops
ice cream
strawberries
a flag
fields
celebration
sea shells
stars
stripes
a kite
something that makes you happy (but not a person or animal!)

Celebrations!

A very Happy Birthday to Nikki ~ and thank you to Flighty for his lovely reminder with gorgeous Pretty Lady rose. I searched high and low through my garden for a rose, but could only find tight buds. It wasn't until I walked by the side of the house that I noticed a very small (1" diameter) velvety red rose! So here's the first rose of the year and the only blooming rose in my garden, Nikki!

Photobucket

While I was searching for a rose, I spotted a pollen-laden bee on the flowering chives. Check out the orange pollen sacs!

Photobucket

The honeysuckle is starting to bloom and spread its fragrance...the bees and hummingbirds will be happy!

Photobucket

Other celebrations include a bridal shower I attended yesterday for my niece who will be getting married in August. As a reminder that June is often the month associated with weddings, I recently witnessed a beautiful bride and her handsome groom amongst the spring greens of the woodland garden:

Photobucket

I loved seeing the interaction of these two wedding guests ~ I loved how the young girl bent down for eye contact with the little fellow, and how he held her hand. Such a caring, sweet sight.

Photobucket

We have had some fantastic evening skies and sunsets.

This was taken off my sun deck:

I'll leave you with this (not very good) shot of a bunny at the bottom of the street. I like the way the sunlight shone through his pink little ears. Once he spotted me, all I  could see was its white cotton tail hopping off ~ perhaps it was heading off for a celebration of its own :)

Poppies and a wild rose!

Just a few photos of the gorgeous poppies that have flourished in this great weather. Although I don't have any in my garden, there are plenty around the area.

Eagles on the beach

It's not that I have nothing to post about - too much, actually. The weather has been glorious, therefore I have been outside and taking lots of photos. I can't keep up now that I've taken a break. However, I'll start with today...

I decided to take a drive to a fairly secluded rocky beach. The tide was out far enough for a strip of green covered rocks which enticed a barrage of bald eagles. I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful antics of these majestic birds, and breathing in the fresh sea air.

Here's a movie with photos, followed by a slideshow.

Jumping into June

Here are my May Scavenger Hunt Photos and here is Kathy's link site:

First the collage:
Photobucket

Individual photos:

I walked outside and said, "I need a butterfly!" and what fluttered by and landed on the mock orange but this tattered one. It looked a little worse for wear, bless,  and I can't determine what kind it is.  Does anyone know?

Photobucket

I took numerous photos of bicycles, however this is the one I chose because I thought the balloon was a cheerful touch:

Photobucket

I also took a few photos of red doors, and chose this one because it was labelled as such ;)

Photobucket

I chose the cat under the blossom tree as my cartoon character. He has a glazed eye look about him, but who wouldn't after experiencing this crazy spring weather!

Photobucket

For the emergency vehicle, I had a photo of an ambulance and this Sheriff van. It's not often I see a sheriff van so it moved into the spot.

Photobucket

I had numerous choices for vintage as well, and decided on this old truck parked beside a dilapidated barn taken on a drive through some back country roads.

Photobucket

I had a patch of forget-me-nots picked out for the 'something blue' category, but have changed it to a Vancouver Canucks flag. The Vancouver Canucks hockey team is in the Stanley Cup playoffs, with the first game against the Boston Bruins tonight. Needless to say, Canuck fever fills the air, with many vehicles festooned with flags, and people of all ages wearing Canuck jerseys! Go Canucks!

Photobucket

I had photos of street lamps during the day, some shining at night, and then spotted a utility worker up on a ladder, and thought he added some interest to the street light shot.

Photobucket

The photo I chose for the 'texture' category was the embedded cutlery and dishes in a wall of a straw bale farmhouse on the house and garden tour one of my sons and I enjoyed on Mother's Day.
Tracey Horovaten and Shayne Barker’s gorgeous farmhouse is truly unique; hand-built by a master woodworker; the imaginative creator of multi-dimensional, fanciful collages/murals.

Photobucket

The Aquarius Place street sign is the only choice I found for the Zodiac category, and that was spotted by my son!

Photobucket

The building I chose was a water tower, which could be, if one used imagination, a castle tower ;)

Photobucket

Last, but definitely not beast least, is a B&W animal portrait ~ how could I resist this face!
