Visiting a few interesting places during the month of August, offered me a chance to scavenge up photos for the hunt!
1. Walk
A walk through the Wacky Woods provided many chances to find weird and wonderful images.
2. Horizontal
With the hot weather we have experienced this summer, the ocean breezes call folks down to the beach. Paddle boarding has become a very popular pastime. The object of paddle boarding is to eventually stand upright on the 'sweet spot' and paddle, keeping the board balanced in a horizontal position.
The splashy blob in the water is a swimmer ~
3. Square
Many design features on this building on the Alberni quay, sporting a square red sign and many round and rectangular windows.
4. Diversity
There was diversity aplenty at this garden structures gallery ~ so many photos taken, hard to choose just one ~
5. Rough
Back to the Wacky Woods for this photo of a rough tree trunk with many outgrowths of shelf fungi.
6. Bow
This is the bow of a vintage 1944 100 ft. tugboat, MV Songhee, that has been converted to a bed and breakfast/restaurant called Swept Away Inn and was opened in 2014.
7. Joy
"Wonderful and exhilarating," is how my friend described the event she chose to celebrate her 75th birthday! Yes, she jumped (in tandem) out of a perfectly good airplane, at 10,000 feet.
...followed by a garden party with scrumptious food ... and cake!
By the way, such an experience is not listed anywhere on my bucket list, now or when I reach 75!
8. Forgotten
(but not in the Wacky Woods).
9.
10. Colourless
Back to the garden sculpture gallery for the view of the water from a fountain ~ next to a turquoise ball, in a tree-bowl container.
11. Friendly
'Selfie', social media, sharing, friendly?
or a different perspective of a day of friendship at the water's edge...
12. Whatever
This photo, taken from my doorstep, shows the Martin Mars Water Bomber.
In July, after being in retirement for two years, the Martin Mars Water Bomber was deployed to fight devastating forest fires in BC.
According to a news report two days ago,
The B.C. Wildfire Service contract for the huge Martin Mars water bomber has ended.
Owner Wayne Coulson says the plane was used five times over four fires and dumped one million litres of water. According to B.C. wildfire officials, the total cost for the big plane was $736,000. Coulson says he's now speaking to officials in Washington state, to determine if the Martin Mars could be useful over the huge forest fires blazing there.
There are quite a few youtube videos of the Martin Mars Water Bombers if you'd like to see more. Here's a video link to one that shows a demonstration of its capabilities.
To finish off August's collection, here's a glimpse of looking back at summer ~
Thanks, one again, to greenthumb for hosting this monthly photo scavenger hunts, and thanks to my readers as well :)
